THE POTTING SHED
This garden pavilion in Islington brings together a greenhouse, potting space and sauna within a compact building set into the garden.
Portland limestone blocks form a weighty mineral base for a Douglas fir frame and glazed roof. The growing space is bright and open, while the adjoining sauna is lined in Thermo Ash. An end-grain timber screen filters the daylight, creating a dense atmosphere. A polished concrete floor runs between the two spaces.
Raised planting beds, steps and an outdoor shower extend the pavilion into the garden, bringing cultivation and bathing together as part of daily life.
